Holidays are a bit of a mixed bag - they can be loads of fun, or really stressful. And usually they are a little bit of both! No matter what situation you find yourself in, here are some simple and thoughtful ways in which you can rekindle and share the joy of the season, and actually have fun giving.
Decorate a Coworker's Office Cubby - The end of the year can be a crazy time for businesses, no matter what your industry. Add a touch of something to a coworker's desk, cubby or office that’s going to make them smile and lift their spirits, reminding them of what they love about the holidays, or why they celebrate them in the first place.
Leave an Anonymous Gift or Card for a Friend - Anonymous gifts are so fun to surprise someone with. If you have a friend or neighbor that needs a little pick-me-up, or if you just want to let someone know you’re thinking about them, leave them an anonymous gift or card to brighten their day.
Remember the Mailperson - Did you ever think about what a tough job it must be to work for the post office or a delivery service this time of year? Insanity, I’m sure. You can’t blame people if they are a little grumpy. Put together a care package for your local carrier as a thank you for them busting their butts this time of year. You might include things like soothing tea or a giftcard to Starbucks, some healthy snacks or gum or candy. Whatever you give, most importantly make sure to thank them for their hard work!
Sponsor a Child or Family in Need this Christmas - The holidays are tough for a lot of people, but the good news is there are many organizations out there that you can partner with in being a blessing. Search online for opportunities in your area where you can provide some Christmas joy to a needy family.
Give a Good Tip - Working on a holiday can be tough if it’s something you celebrate, but lots of people in travel or service industries have to do it. Whether it’s for a restaurant waitstaff or someone handling your bags at the airport, show these people a little extra love by leaving a generous tip around the holidays.
I’m sure this short list is only scratching the surface of thoughtful and fun ways you can bring joy into people’s lives this holiday season. If you have other ideas, share them in the comments below!
