I’m not sure where the summer is going so quickly, but the onset of August always makes it feel like we are halfway to fall. We cling to August seeking to grab hold of every last bit of summer, squeezing in vacations before the kids return to school, treasuring up memories of lazy days and warm nights.
Fireflies and fireworks, barbecues and boardwalks, watermelon and water parks… this is the stuff August is made of.
Maybe the awareness of September around the corner makes us appreciate these treasures that much more. I think that’s why I love Walt Whitman’s quote about the miracles of the sea. A summer trip to the beach is so much more than sand, sun and Italian Ice on the boardwalk. It’s savoring the slow moments with family or friends, watching the waves roll in, napping in the sun, combing the dunes for treasures like starfish and seaglass. Whether you vacation at the beach, or somewhere else, don’t let August pressure you to fill up your days, rushing to the next thing. Treasure each moment, no matter how big or small.
Grab this art print and calendar as a reminder to treasure the miracles in each summer day, whether you are by the beach, or relaxing at home. You can download them both here and print them on two pieces of letter-sized paper. On each day, write down one summer memory or treasured moment.
