People always say to carry your sketchbook (or notebook) with you everywhere because you never know when an idea will strike you. So true! I doodled this little guy years ago, but didn’t know how I wanted to handle the sunflower’s petals. And then life got busy, and I forgot about it. But recently I was flipping through my sketchbook and knew it was time to give life to this sketch.
This project was lots of fun because I tried a few stitches and techniques that were new to me, including the scotch stitch and needlewoven picot. (I love learning new stitches - oh the possibilities!) If I hadn’t learned some of these stitches, I don’t think I would have been able to bring the sunflower to life quite the same way. I’m super happy with the way this embroidery art turned out and loved working outside the hoop. Sunflowers make me think of blue sky and warm days, and also my sister (‘cause she loves sunflowers - hi Teresa!) Maybe you know of someone who loves sunflowers too? ;) If so, this piece is up for grabs in my shop! And to see what else I’m creating, follow me on Instagram @bethcolletti
What’s something new you’re learning these days?
