If you've been following along on my blog the last few months, you may have read about my goals for intentional living (like here and here). This conviction is one that's grown for me as I age and realize how quickly life goes! Plus I’ve lived through seasons where I felt swept along by the tide of busyness, emotionally flatlining and empty inside.
I remember losing myself trying to be everything to everyone. Living this way made me forget who I was and why I was doing what I was doing with my life. In fact, life felt like it was slipping through my fingers. I had no vision for my future. No sense of purpose and no sense of self.
Can you relate? Have you ever experienced this type of burnout?
It actually was through creating art that I rediscovered myself and gifts that had long slept dormant. As I made space for quiet and rest, I was fascinated and inspired by the beauty in simple things. I became aware of all the wonderful yet ordinary moments in life that are worth celebrating. (After all, so much of life is simply ordinary and it would be sad to dismiss it all.)
I needed to remind myself to slow down and allow myself to enjoy life, whether it was taking the long way home from work on wooded back roads, or making a home cooked meal and enjoying the taste of each bite without rushing off to the next thing. I wanted a full life: one full of beauty, full of wonder, full of meaning, full of relationships… full. And these things are so precious that I want them for others too.
As we move along into the year, my work is increasingly becoming about creating reminders that will inspire full living.
What does this mean?
Essentially I desire for everything I create to be a reminder to you to choose full living. To slow down and allow yourself to become aware of the beautiful, ordinary moments surrounding you. To be intentional about savoring and celebrating all that is precious in your world. It would delight me to encourage and refresh you with my art in this way. I have exciting new work planned this year and I can't wait to share it with you!
The paintings featured here are just a glimpse of what I’ve been working on and I’ll be translating them to other products in the weeks ahead. Stay tuned for more! (For early sneak peeks, you can join my newsletter to get the full scoop plus some freebies featuring the new designs!)
