Wow - I don’t know about you, but I can’t believe Christmas is in a few days! With all the hustle and bustle of the season, I can easily get swept up in the busyness of it all and forget to take time to celebrate and enjoy the beauty and wonder of this time of year.
So my question is, what do you do to slow down and enjoy the holidays before you blink and they’re gone? What special traditions do you or your family follow?
Living in NJ, I never really know if December is going to be mild or snowy. Generally I do not have a white Christmas living where I do, but sometimes I get lucky! ;) This year it’s been exceptionally mild, but that doesn’t keep it from feeling like Christmas. Some people love to go to New York City and see the tree and other sites, but not me. I’d rather commune with nature! ;) One of my favorite things to do this time of year is to visit Longwood Gardens and see their spectacular Christmas displays.
Longwood Gardens is a magical land in Kennett Square, PA and home to over 1000 acres of gardens, meadows and woodland. The living expression of all that founder, Pierre S. du Pont, found inspiring, meaningful, and beautiful, Longwood Gardens is not only home to exquisite gardens and fountains, but also a cultural center celebrating music and the arts. Additionally they offer several popular classes in everything from photography to horticulture, and have a delicious selection of dishes in both their café and fine restaurant.
I love visiting Longwood Gardens throughout the year, but it’s especially magical at Christmastime. My latest trip was this past weekend and here is just a taste of what you can explore:
These photos barely do justice to the beauty of the gardens. If you live in the Philadelphia, Wilmington, or New York City areas, I’d encourage you to visit before the Christmas display comes down on January 10th. Check out this link to get tickets.
I’d love to hear about your favorite festivity this time of year (or any other magical place you’d recommend visiting!)
